Non-Subjective General Intelligence (NSGI)
Abstract
Non-Subjective General Intelligence (NSGI) is formally introduced as a distinct ontological class of intelligent systems. NSGI denotes general-purpose intellectual capability comparable in scope to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), while explicitly excluding the emergence of autonomous subjectivity, self-directed goal formation, and independent responsibility. The paper addresses a structural gap in current AI taxonomy, where general intelligence is commonly assumed to imply the creation of a new cognitive subject. NSGI challenges this assumption by separating intellectual capacity from agency, treating intelligence as a high-capacity, general system operating within an ontological sandbox that preserves a single human source of will, values, and responsibility. This work does not propose a technical implementation, algorithm, or architecture. Its contribution is ontological and classificatory: the formal identification and definition of a class of systems in which general intelligence is possible without subjecthood. By fixing this category, the paper reframes discussions around AGI, alignment, and AI safety, and outlines an alternative trajectory for advanced intelligence development that avoids the creation of new autonomous actors.
