Abstract

Terminology is the infrastructure of modern knowledge: it names concepts, stabilizes meanings, and enables communities to coordinate research, innovation, and learning. In science, terminology supports precision, reproducibility, and cumulative explanation; in technology, it accelerates design, standardization, and transfer from laboratory to product; in education, it frames curricula, assessment, and professional communication while shaping how learners understand disciplinary ideas. Yet terminology is not a neutral dictionary of labels. Terms evolve with discoveries, tools, institutions, and social needs; they travel across languages and cultures; they compete with metaphors, acronyms, brand names, and informal jargon; they are standardized in some domains and contested in others.
