Heterocognition as a paradigm of co-creation between the human mind and generative Artificial Intelligence
Abstract
The rapid spread of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems is redefining the traditional boundaries between human subjects and technological tools. This article proposes the concept of heterocognition as a unifying theoretical framework for understanding these transformations, introducing the notion of the heterocognitive entity as an emerging subject of human-artificial co-creation. Through a conceptual analysis and a case study in the field of art and music (RoBoTO Project), the article argues that contemporary creativity is increasingly taking the form of a dynamic continuum between human cognition and artificial generation. Finally, the epistemological, pedagogical and ethical implications of this paradigm are discussed, with the aim of offering a theoretical framework useful for interdisciplinary research on AI, creativity and cognitive psychology.
