ICARUS+E+R: Structural Emergence of Reference Beyond Evaluative Differentiation
Abstract
This record presents ICARUS+E+R, a minimal structural architecture obtained by relaxing the non-substitutability constraint of ICARUS+E.The purpose of this extension is not to introduce meaning, semantic normativity, or consciousness, but to formally characterize the emergence of reference as a structural consequence of sustaining evaluative differentiation across contexts. This version preserves all definitions and results of the original ICARUS+E+R formulation and adds an explicit laboratory-level diagnostic artifact illustrating the instability of functional substitution in the absence of semantic normativity. The results show that reference (R) can exist without meaning (M), while simultaneously introducing a structural tension that makes semantic normativity unavoidable as a condition of coherent long-term coordination.ICARUS+E+R thus occupies a precise and non-optional intermediate position between evaluative regulation and normative semantic architectures, remaining entirely within the domain of structural analysis and introducing no phenomenology or experiential claims.
