Abstract

This Zenodo record contains three video files produced as part of the research project Creating Suspense Across Versions: Genetic Narratology and Stephen King’s IT (2022–2024), carried out at the University of Antwerp. The videos were created to communicate research questions, methods, and insights to a broader academic and public audience. 1. Stephen King and his ProofreadersWho are the lucky people that get to read Stephen King's first drafts of his novels? Here's a look at some of the main people that King has relied on throughout his long career to proofread his manuscripts, going all the way back to his student days: Burt Hatlen, Susan Artz, Tabitha Spruce King, George Everett McCutcheon, Russ Dorr, Owen King and Joe Hill. 2. A Collector’s Guide to Stephen King Manuscripts, Galleys, Proofs and ARCs – Part 1This two-part video offers a brief collector’s guide to Stephen King manuscripts, galleys, proofs and ARCs (Advance Reading Copies). They can take many forms: from an original “idea notebook” handwritten by King, to a review copy that is identical to the first edition book except for a publisher’s sticker or stamp and the letter from the editor that came with it. 3. A Collector’s Guide to Stephen King Manuscripts, Galleys, Proofs and ARCs – Part 2The second part is about galleys, proofs and ARCs. These video files are preserved here in their original formats to ensure their long-term accessibility, citability, and integration into the project’s research output.
