On the Substitution of Reality by Ontological Possibility
Abstract
Recent realist accounts of modality argue that possibilities should be understood as ontologically real potentialities rather than hypothetical constructs. This paper demonstrates a categorical error arising when ontologically real possibility replaces the condition of reality itself. If reality is allowed to count without being carried in present enactment (Trägerschaft), possibility functionally substitutes for reality. The result is not an extension of realism, but the production of unreality: validity without present actuality.
