Abstract

Many students, particularly at the secondary level, struggle to understand physics concepts because traditional teaching methods often rely on rote memorization and lack engaging strategies. To address this challenge, innovative approaches such as digital storybooks have been introduced to make abstract scientific ideas more accessible and interesting. This study examines the effectiveness of science-themed digital storybooks in enhancing physics concepts at the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology - Laboratory High School, Gabaldon Campus. Using a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-post-test design, the study involved 39 students during the third quarter of the 2024–2025 academic year. Pretests and post-tests were administered through a researcher-developed 50-item multiple-choice questionnaire, which was validated and tested for reliability. Statistical analysis using a paired t-test and computation of effect size revealed a significant improvement in student performance after the intervention, with a medium effect size (0.68). The results confirm that science-themed storybooks greatly increase student interest and understanding of physics concepts. Therefore, incorporating digital storytelling in science education is highly suggested to promote improved academic performance and scientific interest among students. Future studies may explore its effectiveness in other scientific disciplines and across different educational levels.
