Sports Governance and Accountability
Abstract
Governance and accountability have become central concerns in contemporary sport management, driven by increasing public scrutiny, regulatory demands, and stakeholder expectations. Despite the proliferation of governance codes and reform initiatives, governance failures persist across sport systems. Drawing on over 15 years of senior leadership experience as a Chief Sports Administrator and an MBA-qualified professional, this paper examines the practical realities of governance and accountability in sport organisations. It highlights how leadership behaviour, organisational culture, and institutional capacity shape governance outcomes in practice, offering lessons for strengthening accountability mechanisms in sport institutions.
