CD248 AS A NOVEL CO-FACTOR FOR THROMBOTIC PATHOGENESIS IN HIV INFECTED PATIENTS
Abstract
Several clinical studies emphasize the occurrence of HIV-associated thrombosis largely in the absence of classic thrombophilic risk factors such as advanced age, immobility, strong family history of thrombosis, and malignancy. Numerous intersecting mechanisms associated with HIV infection and antiviral therapy which may lead to vasculopathy and hypercoagulability are now emerging. Evaluating the novel protein CD248 in correlation with coagulation abnormalities in the HIV infected patients is therefore important in the identification of possible precursors of coagulation defects in HIV patients and as a therapeutic target against the thrombotic disorder.
