DESIGN INSILICO HYDROGEL SUBSTRATES FOR ENZYME ACTIVE SITES
Abstract
Hydrogels offer diverse applications in molecular biology, genetics, and enzymology. A particularly significant breakthrough is their use in designing substrates that precisely mimic an enzyme’s unique active site. Since each enzyme possesses a specific structural pocket that recognizes only a particular substrate shape, hydrogels can be engineered to replicate these binding environments. This capability allows them to act as sensitive and selective biomimetic tools. Consequently, such designed hydrogels hold great promise as biomarkers and represent a major advancement for clinical diagnostics, enabling highly accurate detection of enzyme activity and related pathological conditions.
