A Companion Guide to Structural Grammar: How to Read Bounded Recursion Without Overreach
Abstract
This record provides a pedagogical companion to the author’s foundational papers on bounded recursion and prospective containment: A Structural Grammar for Bounded Recursion: Signal, Collapse, Containment, and Proportional Delay The Revocation Barrier: Why Memory Reset Is Not a Well-Defined Operation in Many Agentic AI Systems Prospective Containment in Recursive Systems: A Structural Synthesis of Stability and Revocation The purpose of this companion guide is interpretive, not theoretical. It introduces no new models, mechanisms, proofs, or empirical claims. Instead, it explains how to read the structural grammar S → R → C_in → C_out(1 − δ^D) → σ as a constrained descriptive language for reasoning about escalation, containment, and stability across domains. No mathematical or technical background is assumed. Symbols are used strictly as labels, not as objects of calculation. The arrows indicate a conceptual reading sequence rather than causation, prediction, or physical force. Any attempt to derive mechanisms, predictions, or universal laws from the grammar constitutes misuse. Examples are deliberately limited and are presented only to demonstrate how the grammar can be interpreted without contradiction. Non-applicability is treated as informative rather than as failure: the grammar applies only to recursive processes that experience pressure toward unbounded escalation and should not be applied to linear processes, stable oscillations, or systems whose recursion remains intrinsically bounded. This document is intended to function as a protective interpretive interface between the formal papers and a broader readership, clarifying scope, preventing overextension, and supporting responsible use of the framework.
