Abstract

This work presents a framework for human-centered cybersecurity practice through six archetypal "alter egos" that security professionals embody across different contexts: the Storyteller Bard (narrative translation), the Compassionate Healer (psychological safety), the Log Detective (pattern recognition), the Guardian of Firewalls (boundary defense), the Strategic Oracle (risk forecasting), and the Trickster Hacker (adversarial testing). Unifying these archetypes is EIOC — Emotional Indicators of Compromise — a novel framework identifying emotional states (fatigue, shame, fear, overconfidence, burnout, isolation) as attack surfaces that adversaries exploit through social engineering. Each archetype interprets EIOC through a distinct lens: capacity assessment, vulnerability diagnosis, behavioral deviation, pressure detection, trendline forecasting, and exploit mapping. The framework bridges technical security controls with emotional intelligence, offering practitioners a vocabulary for the human dimensions of security work that traditional maturity models overlook. The series argues that security effectiveness depends not on specialization in a single mode, but on the ability to rotate between modes as situations demand.
