The Impossibility of Unified History: A Relational Proof
Abstract
This paper proves that the proposition "a correct unified history can be written" is false. Theproof proceeds from three premises established in prior work: (1) dimensional reduction isirreversible—high-dimensional structures projected onto lower-dimensional media cannot berecovered; (2) the observer is internal to the system—there is no external standpoint fromwhich to view history "as it was"; (3) meaning emerges from relations and isobserver-dependent—what counts as "correct" is itself relational. History, as a linguisticdescription, is necessarily a dimensional reduction of lived experience. Multiple incompatiblereductions are equally valid from their respective relational positions. No procedure exists toadjudicate between them without presupposing one. Therefore, "correct unified history" is acategory error: correctness requires a standpoint, unity requires standpoint-independence,and these requirements are mutually exclusive.
