Analysing the Quality of Financial Inclusion in Jalgaon District
Abstract
Financial inclusion in India has made significant progress in expanding access to banking and digital financial services; however, the quality of inclusion remains a critical concern. Quality encompasses not only access and usage but also financial literacy, service satisfaction, consumer protection, grievance redressal, and empowerment. This study analyses the quality of financial inclusion in Jalgaon district based on primary data collected from 100 respondents across urban and rural areas. Using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and cross-tabulation, the study evaluates access and usage patterns, financial literacy levels, service satisfaction, and perceived barriers to effective inclusion. The findings reveal near-universal access to bank accounts, reflecting the success of national financial inclusion initiatives, but uneven usage of digital services and limited access to formal credit. Financial literacy is found to have a significant association with active usage of financial services, highlighting its role as a key determinant of quality inclusion. Service satisfaction is moderate overall, with notable weaknesses in grievance redressal mechanisms and transparency of service charges. The study concludes that achieving meaningful financial inclusion requires a shift in policy focus from mere account ownership to improving financial education, service responsiveness, consumer protection, and accessible credit. Strengthening these quality dimensions is essential for inclusive and sustainable financial development at the district level.
