Role of Digital Marketing in Strengthening Indian Brands After Liberalization
Abstract
The economic reforms initiated in India in 1991 brought wide-ranging changes in the country’s business and marketing environment. Indian firms that had earlier functioned within a regulated framework were required to adapt to competitive pressures, evolving consumer expectations, and rapid technological developments. In this changing context, branding gained strategic importance as organizations sought to establish identity, credibility, and long-term market presence. Over the years, digital marketing emerged as a practical and influential medium for brand communication in India due to its reach, flexibility, and interactive nature. Based on a review of existing literature, policy documents, and published studies, this paper discusses the role of digital marketing in strengthening Indian brands in the post-liberalization period. The paper also highlights key opportunities and challenges associated with digital marketing adoption and reflects on its relevance for sustainable brand development in the Indian market.
