THE URGENT ISSUE OF DEVELOPING COGNITIVE COMPETENCIES OF ACADEMIC LYCEUM STUDENTS IN THE CONTEXT OF MODERN EDUCATION
Abstract
Abstract In the context of modern educational reforms, the development of cognitive competencies among academic lyceum students has become an urgent pedagogical issue. This article examines the theoretical foundations and practical aspects of developing students’ cognitive competencies, with particular attention to mathematics education. Cognitive competencies such as analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, independent reasoning, and the application of knowledge in new situations are considered key outcomes of contemporary education. The study emphasizes the role of innovative teaching approaches, including the use of educational technologies and trilingual learning environments, in enhancing students’ cognitive development. A trilingual approach is viewed as an effective means of increasing cognitive flexibility and supporting deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Based on the analysis of pedagogical literature and teaching practice at the academic lyceum level, the article outlines methodological recommendations aimed at improving the effectiveness of the educational process. The findings highlight that a competency-based and student-centered approach contributes to the formation of higher-order thinking skills and prepares students for further academic and professional activities.
