Abstract

AbstractThe profession of policing is characterized by high demands, constant exposure to stressfulsituations, and prolonged working hours that often affect both the physical and psychologicalwell-being of police personnel. This study investigates the impact of occupational stress on theoverall Quality of Life (QoL) of police constables in Mysuru City, Karnataka. The researchemploys a descriptive-correlational design, with 200 police constables selected using stratifiedrandom sampling. Data were collected through the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-14) andWHOQOL-BREF instrument to assess stress levels and QoL across physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains. Statistical analyses revealed significant negative correlationsbetween occupational stress and QoL dimensions, with the highest impact observed inpsychological and physical health domains. The study concludes that occupational stresssignificantly impairs QoL among police constables and calls for systemic interventions such asstress management programs, counseling services, and organizational restructuring to mitigate itseffects.
