Abstract

Abstract: This study introduces the Mapping Medieval Peoples (MMP) project, a digital humanities initiative designed to explore how ethnic identities and spatial perceptions were constructed in Latin texts between 400 and 1200. By shifting the focus from biological definitions of ethnicity to discursive and fluid constructs, the project maps the mental geographies of the medieval world through a systematic analysis of ethnonyms. The following report outlines the methodological framework of the project, discusses the data structures employed, and evaluates its potential impact on the current landscape of medieval historiography. Keywords: Digital Humanities, Medieval History, Mental Maps, Ethnonyms, MMP Project.
