Abstract

The term gravity is deeply embedded in physics, yet its continued use often obscures ratherthan clarifies the underlying mechanisms governing motion of matter and energy. Inpractice, the word functions as a placeholder that compresses multiple physical effectsinto a single label, discouraging precise description. In this paper, we argue thatgravitational phenomena are more transparently described as the influence of conditionedspace-phase on the allowed motion of matter and energy. By replacing force-basedlanguage with operational descriptions of space-phase influence, path biasing, andpropagation cost, long-standing puzzles concerning orbits, energy storage, hysteresis, anddelayed release—particularly in astrophysical systems—become conceptually clearer. This reframing does not modify General Relativity or its predictions, but instead restoresexplanatory transparency by naming what is physically occurring rather than invoking anabstract cause.
