Abstract

Bullying and cyberbullying are characterized as actions of intimidating, harassing,and/or physically or verbally assaulting someone. In this article, we present theirdefinitions and establish a connection between this phenomenon and neurocognition. Asthe hypothesis is that these practices are growing in schools, creating more victims eachyear, we set out from three objectives to reflect on the topic: (i) to historically verify theemergence of bullying and cyberbullying; (ii) to describe their characteristics anddifferences; and (iii) to discuss how these practices relate to exposure to the pain ofinadequate social interaction, which is undoubtedly associated with a set ofneurobiological responses, generating psychopathology and cytoarchitectural andphysiological structural alterations in the integrative cerebral dynamics of the victims, and how this materializes in schools. The results obtained from the research studiedconfirm that bullying and cyberbullying are appearing in schools, creating more andmore victims, highlighting that the topic demands attention from researchers, bothnationally and internationally.
