Abstract

Griffiths Methane–Steam Hybrid Regenerative Propulsion System V5 T The Griffiths Methane–Steam Hybrid Drive (MSH-Drive) is a regenerative, closed-loop propulsion and life-support architecture engineered for ark-class interstellar missions requiring century-scale endurance, sustainable thrust, and self-sufficient crew habitability. Version 5.0 represents a comprehensive upgrade of the v4.0 baseline, integrating the full Griffiths Canon electromagnetic and systems architecture into a single unified mothership framework. The primary propulsion upgrade in v5.0 replaces the generic modular nozzle arrays with REMN (Rotating Electromagnetic Nozzle) arrays, increasing exhaust velocity from 9–12 km/s to 25–40 km/s (Isp 2,500–4,000 s) and reducing time-to-0.1c from ~25 years (v4.0 baseline) to under 10 years at the enhanced operating point. The Griffiths Rotating Field Framework (GRFF) provides cruise-phase plume stability and shear suppression, while AIM Pods v2.0 carrying Prometheus-class fission reactors supply clip-on megawatt-class power for both propulsion and onboard systems — including swarm mining operations and the IMPH surface extraction platform at destination. Version 5.0 introduces a dedicated life-support integration architecture. The H2EM-Field Burner provides hydrogen-fed food preparation for the full crew complement. The H2EM Hot Water System delivers crew showers, sanitation, and cleaning services from waste-heat recovery in the cascaded thermal stages. The MESSIAH closed-loop food production system provides 60% of crew caloric requirements from onboard biofarming modules sustained by graphene-derived carbon substrate and recycled water from the propulsion loop. Together these systems form a closed-loop resource ecosystem in which hydrogen, water, heat, and carbon cycle continuously between propulsion, life-support, and structural maintenance functions. DIGSP v15+ with REBCO/RTB integration provides cognitive oversight, predictive diagnostics, and autonomous management across all subsystems. The Dual-Ring Habitat ICD interface formalises structural and thermal integration. NGLS supports EVA logistics, DIMDCP enables in-situ fabrication from graphene byproduct, and the IMPH Plasma Hopper enables surface mining at destination bodies. Combined, these upgrades elevate the MSH-Drive from a propulsion paper to a complete interstellar civilisation architecture. All REMN performance figures are consistent with the analytical framework established in the GREMN paper [1] and cite the same experimental benchmarks. The MSH-Drive v5.0 is the endurance pillar of the Griffiths Canon: the architecture that makes multi-century ark-class missions not only physically achievable but operationally self-sustaining.
