Abstract
Abstract Our Universe - Energy Not Available Cannot Be Used Entropy is commonly invoked as a driver of irreversibility and the arrow of time, despite being formally defined as a state function that records system changes. This paper clarifies that role by identifying irreversible availability loss as the underlying physical constraint governing real processes. We argue that entropy does not cause physical evolution but instead records the loss of energy’s capacity to perform future work. From this constraint, irreversibility follows as a physical boundary rather than a statistical tendency. We further show that the Principle of Least Action (PLA) emerges as a survivability condition: trajectories that destroy availability too rapidly self-eliminate, leaving only those paths that minimize irreversible loss as physically achievable. This interpretation preserves all existing laws and equations while resolving a persistent ambiguity regarding entropy, time’s arrow, and least action. The framework is falsifiable through empirical correlations between dissipation and deviation from least-action trajectories.
