Abstract

catastrophes~ 2.0.0 Version 2.0.0 revises the real-root solver in butterfly~ while retaining a single public A5 object. Recursive real-root isolation replaces complex-root candidate extraction, addressing duplicated or missing root locations near repeated roots. The revised implementation also detects overflow in width-scaled coefficients and preserves selection memory when these inputs are invalid. The major-version change reflects a compatibility change in eps. It remains accepted as an alias of the new, explicit name stability_eps, but now controls positive-curvature preference in output selection only. It no longer controls root extraction or merging. Corrected root sets can change root counts, selected outputs, and sound in existing A5 mappings. The inlet and outlet layout and once-per-vector calculation are preserved. The source code and executables of fold~, cusp~, and swallowtail~ are unchanged. The supplied A5 binary targets macOS 15.0 or later and contains arm64 and x86_64 slices. Its final x86_64 executable passed 23 functional cases in Max at 48 kHz, signal vector 64, and I/O vector 512. Native arm64 operation was not tested. Earlier vector-timing measurements remain attributed to 2.0.0-rc.1. The documented extreme-scale underflow limitation remains. The installable asset is catastrophes-2.0.0.zip. Extract it and install the complete catastrophes~ folder, keeping earlier versions outside Max's search paths. Read docs/MIGRATION.md before migrating existing work. Bundled recordings and rendered figures are historical material, including A5 examples produced with the earlier implementation. They have not been rerendered for 2.0.0. The revised Computer Music Journal examples are separate supplementary materials.
