Admissibility and the Staged Emergence of Coherence
Abstract
This paper introduces admissibility as a pre-dynamical organizing principle in physics: the idea that physical law operates only within a dynamically restricted set of admissible states and correlations, whose structure precedes and constrains all subsequent evolution. Rather than modifying existing dynamics, the framework shifts explanatory focus to the evolution of what is allowed to exist at all. From this principle, the paper derives a necessary and non-trivial consequence: coherence cannot be distributed scale-freely across physical systems. Instead, as global constraints relax, admissibility opens unevenly, forcing coherence to emerge in discrete stages and migrate across progressively narrower substrates. This staged emergence provides a unified structural explanation for several long-standing features of fundamental physics, including low-entropy initial conditions, horizon-bounded information, area-law entanglement, Page-like transitions, and the increasing fragility of later-emerging complex systems. The analysis treats admissibility as acting on correlations rather than microstates and shows that staged coherence follows independently of specific matter models, cosmological scenarios, or new physical constants. No modifications to general relativity, quantum mechanics, or thermodynamics are introduced; instead, these frameworks are reinterpreted as operating within evolving admissibility constraints. This work serves as a foundational paper for a broader research program. Subsequent papers will apply the admissibility framework to specific domains, including quantum decoherence, gravitational information, and biological complexity. The present paper establishes the principle and its first unavoidable structural consequence. About the series. Admissibility Physics derives the Standard Model gauge group, fermion content, quantum formalism, Lorentzian spacetime, the Einstein field equations, the cosmological constant, and the neutrino, strong-CP, and dark sectors from a single assumption — that enforcement is finite at every causally connected region — with zero free parameters. The core derivation runs Papers 0–11; the extension papers carry the individual sectors.
