Abstract

We establish a new subconvexity bound for the standard L-function associated with a Hecke-Maass cusp form for SL(3, Z) in the spectral aspect. By developing an enhanced spectral large sieve inequality for GL(3), we improve upon the convexity bound L(1/2, ) (1 + |t|)3/4 + . Our method synthesizes the Voronoi summation formula for GL(3) with a spectral decomposition of the shifted convolution sums arising from the approximate functional equation. Specifically, we prove that L(1/2, ) (1+|t|)3/4 - for a computable > 0, extending the techniques of Li, Munshi, and Blomer. The result relies crucially on a detailed analysis of the Kuznetsov trace formula on GL(3) and the oscillatory behavior of the associated Bessel functions.
