Chromatic Convergence in the K(n)-Local Stable Homotopy Category at Odd Primes
Abstract
This monograph investigates the structural properties of the chromatic tower in the stable homotopy category SH localized at an odd prime p. We present a rigorous analysis of the Chromatic Convergence Theorem, originally due to Hopkins and Ravenel, which asserts that for a p-local finite spectrum X, the natural map to the homotopy limit of its chromatic localizations X holimn Ln X is a weak equivalence. Special attention is given to the algebraic rigidity of the K(n)-local category at odd primes, where the commutativity of Morava E-theory simplifies the deformation theory of formal group laws. We further explore the interaction between the monochromatic layers Mn X and the global convergence behavior, utilizing the fracture square techniques derived from the arithmetic of the moduli stack of formal groups. The discussion extends to the implications for the Picard group of the K(n)-local category, contrasting the regular behavior at p > 2 with the anomalous phenomena observed at the prime 2.
