Abstract

Boundary note (added 2026-07-23): the Ω-centered empirical layer was self-retracted on 2026-05-31. Ω-centered validation is not currently supported as the active empirical basis; this record remains a historical, fixed, Ω-centered record and must not be cited as current validation. See the VOT Empirical Layer Boundary Note — https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.20474232. A later four-dataset head-to-head found that order gated by critical slowing does not beat free-energy signals (10.5281/zenodo.21422215, negative result). This paper presents the minimal formal structure of the Pleasure Order framework. Rather than proposing ethical norms, psychological prescriptions, political programs, or life strategies, this work introduces a small set of structural variables—Ω (directionality potential), C (coherence), and their temporal derivatives—and defines value, order, and disorder in strictly structural terms. The core claim is simple and non-normative: Value is not located in pleasure, coherence, happiness, or stability themselves. Value is located in the preservation and recoverability of directionality potential (Ω) over time. Within this framework: Ω (Directionality Potential) denotes a system’s latent capacity to revise, reverse, or reconfigure its future trajectories. C (Coherence) represents momentary internal integration. dΩ/dt (Valence) captures the temporal change in directional capacity. dC/dt (Pleasure) captures momentary changes in coherence. Order is defined not as a quantity or goal, but as a structural condition that allows Ω to fluctuate without irreversible collapse, while preventing pleasure (dC/dt) from becoming a dominant control signal. Structural disorder is defined as the persistent and non-recoverable depletion of Ω, regardless of surface-level stability, unity, or coherence. This work deliberately avoids: moral or ethical prescriptions political or governance proposals optimization of happiness, pleasure, or well-being behavioral guidance or applied strategies It functions solely as a descriptive structural framework for evaluating biological, cognitive, and social systems in terms of reversibility and directional capacity. This document defines the point at which the Pleasure Order framework closes as a theory. Further applications, interpretations, or normative extensions are possible, but are explicitly outside the scope of this paper.
