Coping Mechanism of Women Police Personnel in Kerala
Abstract
Policing is a demanding profession that requires constant emotional, physical, and psychological resilience. For women police personnel, these demands are often intensified by additional challenges arising from gender roles, societal expectations, workplace dynamics, and family responsibilities. In recent decades, the role of women in policing has expanded significantly, yet their experiences, stressors, and coping strategies have not always received adequate academic and institutional attention. This book, Coping Mechanisms of Women Police Personnel, is an attempt to address this gap by systematically examining how women police officers perceive, experience, and manage occupational stress. The central focus of this book is to explore the various coping mechanisms adopted by women police personnel, including problem-focused, emotion-focused, social support-based, and avoidant coping strategies. By analysing coping patterns and their association with selected personal, social, and occupational variables, the book seeks to provide a deeper understanding of the factors that influence well-being and professional effectiveness among women in policing.
