Abstract

Plant root systems exhibit directional growth behaviours that frequently precede direct contact with water, nutrients, or physical obstacles, suggesting sensitivity to non-local environmental cues. Here we present a coherence-based framework for root tropism and bioelectrochemical energy harvesting within the Sympathetic Harmonic Resonance Framework (SHRF). We propose that soil functions as a resonant medium structured by coherent water domains, mineral lattices, microbial activity, and mycorrhizal networks, generating subsurface coherence gradients. Root tips act as bioelectric resonance probes that preferentially extend along regions of stable phase coherence rather than solely following chemical concentration gradients. We further demonstrate that spatially sustained charge separation naturally arises along these coherence gradients and can be harnessed by geometrically aligned anode–cathode configurations without external bias or chemical forcing. In this interpretation, harvested electrical energy represents the controlled relaxation of coherence rather than biological energy extraction. The framework unifies hydrotropism, chemotropism, and microbial fuel cell behaviour under a single physical principle and yields experimentally testable predictions relevant to regenerative agriculture, soil health diagnostics, and low-impact energy harvesting.
