3D Octahedral Dyson Swarm with CSBPB Relay Network for Stellar Energy Harvesting
Abstract
3D Octahedral Dyson Swarm with CSBPB Relay Network for Stellar Energy Harvesting This work presents a conceptual engineering framework for a 3D Octahedral Dyson Swarm architecture consisting of 800 primary solar energy harvesting spacecraft distributed across eight symmetrically arranged orbital planes. The system integrates high-efficiency photovoltaic collection, advanced thermal management, autonomous AI-driven fleet coordination, and a two-stage Coherently Synchronized Broadband Photon Beam (CSBPB) relay network to safely and efficiently transmit stellar energy to interplanetary destinations. The proposed configuration uses a multi-ring octahedral orbital geometry, ensuring complete 3D angular coverage, zero self-shadowing, and stable long-term orbital integrity. Each of the eight orbital planes hosts 100 spacecraft, providing optimized 3.6° angular spacing, reduced collision probability, momentum balance through counter-rotating rings, and highly stable station-keeping. To eliminate risks associated with direct Dyson-to-planet laser transmission, the system introduces an intermediate relay layer consisting of 80 dedicated relay spacecraft positioned 1 million km beyond each ring. This enables safe, controlled, and highly efficient multi-hop stellar energy transfer, achieving robust power delivery with reduced pointing risk, minimal divergence loss, and enhanced resilience against solar disturbances. This concept demonstrates a feasible pathway toward civilization-scale energy harvesting, supporting planetary power infrastructures, space industries, and progression toward Kardashev Type-II capability.
