AI governance around the world: United Kingdom
Abstract
This report is part of the AI governance around the world project, which seeks to map the evolving governance landscape through a series of country profiles drafted using a consistent framework. Each profile provides a descriptive overview of the approach to AI regulation and standardisation in different jurisdictions, highlighting high-level aims and principles, definitions of relevant technologies, key policy initiatives, and the main features of national standardisation systems. Drawing exclusively on primary sources, the country profiles analyse legal and policy instruments, national strategies, standardisation initiatives, and public investments that reflect the varied and evolving approaches that different jurisdictions are taking to AI governance. The series of country profiles can be accessed here.
