The Horizon Response Principle: A Friendly Primer (4D Einstein Gravity, Constants Explicit, Convention-Locked)
Abstract
This primer is a pedagogical, constants-explicit guide to the Horizon Response Principle (HRP) in four-dimensional Einstein gravity. It is a readable companion to the rigorous “HRP Master Document” and focuses on clear normalization, units, and sign discipline in a more pedagogical, reader-facing format, while still using standard equations and notation. Core idea. HRP organizes horizon-sector normalizations with a single back-end slot: kSEG = 4πG/c^3 (so kSEG^{-1} = c^3/(4πG)). This slot uniformly carries the reversible area coefficients in black-hole and local-Rindler settings and cleanly rewrites the high-frequency gravitational-wave (GW) flux normalization. Cancellation lemma. The product of the Hawking/Unruh temperature and the Einstein-gravity horizon entropy density is purely classical: T * (S_grav/A) = (α_H / 2c) * kSEG^{-1}. Here α_H is the relevant acceleration/surface-gravity scale (α_H = κ for stationary black holes; α_H = a for local Rindler horizons). The quantum constants ħ and k_B cancel exactly in this product. What the primer delivers (tutorial style). • Stationary black holes: Hamiltonian/Noether-charge area term in Iyer–Wald form, explicitly showing δ(Mc^2) = (κ c^2 / 8πG) δA = (κ / 2c) kSEG^{-1} δA. • Local Rindler horizons: reversible Clausius channel δQ = (a / 2c) kSEG^{-1} δA with the Unruh temperature and a clear, chart-locked generator normalization. • Cosmology (FLRW apparent horizon): two sign-safe routes to the Raychaudhuri/Friedmann form, (i) a quasi-static Clausius identification and (ii) the exact Kodama–Hayward projection; branch and sign choices are stated. • High-frequency gravitational waves: Isaacson energy-flux density written as F_GW = (1/(8 kSEG)) ⟨\dot h^2⟩, strictly as a normalization comparison (no horizon thermodynamics claimed for GW). Conventions and scope (reader’s contract). • Units: SI with G, c, ħ, k_B kept explicit (no silent c = ħ = k_B = 1). • Conventions: signature (− + + +); binormal normalization fixed; chart policy locked (length chart X^0 = ct ↔ time chart t) to prevent factor-of-c mistakes. • Entropy firewall: gravitational horizon entropy S_grav (Wald/Bekenstein–Hawking) is not identified with QFT entanglement entropy; any bridge is explicitly outside scope. • Regime: reversible or near-equilibrium channels in 4D Einstein gravity; no new dynamics or constants beyond (G, c, ħ, k_B). Quality controls included. • “Tripwires” that flag domain/branch/sign assumptions. • “Prooflets” that give one-page derivations without hand-waving. • A short CAS (SymPy) snippet that verifies all exact 2, π, 4π and slot-rewrite factors. Relation to the long note: This primer defers rigorous derivations, detailed sign/HSN and TS ledgers, and paper-audit material to the HRP Master Document. It is intended as a friendly entry point and reference card set; the long note remains the authoritative ledger. For full details, see: Enzo Cabrera Iglesias. (2026).
