Abstract

In the Standard Model, fermion masses arise from Yukawa couplings to the Higgs vacuum expectation value, yet the numerical hierarchy and the existence of exactly three generations remain unexplained. We propose a reinterpretation consistent with the Standard Model equations: mass is not "given" to a particle as a viscous drag from a medium, but quantifies a dynamical space-update cost required to continuously maintain that degree of freedom within an updating spacetime. We formalize this as a Σ-cost postulate, dΣ_f/dτ ≡ m_f c², where τ is an update count. Building on the YAGC framework (V80–V82) that treats Dark Matter and Dark Energy as consequences of space-update dynamics, we hypothesize that particle generations correspond to update depth: a recursive complexity factor α_n multiplying the base Higgs/Yukawa cost. Using empirical masses and derived Yukawa couplings, we show that the inferred update-depth coefficients exhibit a strong generation-scaling law and that the top quark sits near saturation (y_t ≈ 1), suggesting a local "saturated node" at the quantum scale—the micro-scale analogue of cosmological saturation nodes (black holes) in V82. We also clarify the "1% vs 99%" proton-mass decomposition as two Σ-cost components: Higgs (bare degrees of freedom) and QCD (structural binding). This work establishes a unified interpretation connecting cosmological phenomena (DM/DE/BH) to particle hierarchy (Higgs/generations) through common organizing principles: cost, depth, and saturation.
