Causal Psychology Toward a Constraint-Based Science of Mind
Abstract
Psychology has long attempted to explain human behavior, emotion, and suffering throughperception, cognition, and motivation. While empirically productive, these approaches often neglect a more fundamental question: under what causal conditions can a mind operate at all? This work introduces Causal Psychology, a framework that treats psychologicalstates as emergent properties of systems operating under finite causal access, anatomicalconstraints, and temporal uncertainty. Rather than proposing new diagnoses or therapies, the framework repositions the mind as a predictive, resource-bounded system whose apparent failures often reflect environmental impossibility rather than individual deficiency
