Abstract

The Jojari River, a tributary of the Luni River in Rajasthan, India, is critically polluted due to continuous discharge of untreated industrial effluents, domestic sewage, and agricultural runoff. This contamination has resulted in elevated levels of heavy metals, pesticides, dyes, and pharmaceutical residues, posing serious risks to human and animal health. The present review-cum-analytical research paper synthesizes existing evidence on Jojari River pollution–associated diseases and evaluates pharmacological and medicinal interventions used for their management. The study highlights dermatological, gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal, neurological, and reproductive disorders prevalent among exposed populations. Furthermore, it discusses conventional drug therapies, traditional medicinal practices, and emerging pharmacological strategies for pollution-induced diseases. The paper emphasizes the urgent need for integrating environmental toxicology with pharmaceutical sciences to reduce disease burden and promote public health in polluted riverine ecosystems.
