Clarification and Structural Reading
Abstract
This repository contains essays on structural clarification as a reading practice—a method for examining what kind of work a text is performing by removing stylistic form and observing what meaning remains. The core essay, Clarification of Structural Origin in Writing, introduces clarification as a diagnostic operation rather than an interpretive or evaluative one. By stripping away rhythm, metaphor, and stylistic reinforcement, the essays examine whether a text primarily answers a request, imitates the form of testimony, or bears constraint imposed by lived consequence. The focus is not on authorship, quality, or authenticity, but on structural behavior under stress. A companion lay essay, Why Some Writing Carries Weight, presents the same claims in a more accessible register, translating the argument without dilution or simplification. Together, the essays provide two access paths to the same underlying analysis: one formal, one conversational. These essays are intended to support careful reading in contexts where surface fluency, coherence, and emotional plausibility are no longer sufficient discriminators—particularly in educational, institutional, and AI-mediated writing environments. The repository may expand over time to include additional essays that apply or test clarification across other genres and contexts.
