DEPRECATED VERSION Mapping the Time: Dynamics Compatible with Projection - Structural Constraints from Emergent Time
Abstract
This paper constitutes the third installment of the Mapping the Time research program and investigates the constraints that emergent temporal structure imposes on admissible dynamics. Building on the kinematic emergence of time established in Paper 1 and the tri-level projective architecture developed in Paper 2, this work addresses a central structural question: which dynamical evolutions are compatible with time understood as a projection-induced structure rather than a fundamental parameter? The analysis considers dynamics defined on the extended space and examines their compatibility with non-invertible projection maps onto observed spacetime. A precise compatibility condition is introduced: a dynamics on the extended level is admissible only if it intertwines consistently with the projection, yielding a well-defined induced dynamics on the observed level. The main results demonstrate that: Projection-compatible dynamics form a highly constrained subset of all possible dynamics on the extended space; Generically, arbitrary dynamics do not descend consistently under non-invertible projection; The set of compatible dynamics has measure zero within the space of all smooth dynamical flows; Even fully reversible dynamics at the extended level can induce irreversible behavior after projection. This establishes that irreversibility and temporal asymmetry need not be postulated as fundamental features. Instead, they arise structurally from the incompatibility between generic dynamics and irreversible information loss under projection. Importantly, the analysis remains strictly pre-interpretational and structural: No specific physical forces or interaction laws are assumed; No thermodynamic or statistical hypotheses are introduced; No microscopic arrow of time is postulated; No appeal is made to entropy increase as a primitive principle. Irreversibility appears as a structural consequence of projection, not as a dynamical input. The results clarify why consistent temporal evolution is rare rather than generic when time is emergent, and why effective dynamics in observed spacetime necessarily exhibit strong constraints. This paper provides the formal bridge between the geometric emergence of time (Papers 1–2) and its concrete realizations. It sets the stage for the explicit toy models and constructive examples developed in Paper 4.
