Perfectoid Spaces and the Weight-Monodromy Conjecture in p-adic Cohomology
Abstract
The Weight-Monodromy Conjecture, originally formulated by Deligne, posits a fundamental structural property of the -adic cohomology of algebraic varieties over local fields: the coincidence of the monodromy filtration and the weight filtration up to a shift. While established in characteristic p by Deligne, the mixed characteristic case remains a central open problem in arithmetic geometry. This monograph explores the breakthrough application of Perfectoid Spaces, introduced by Peter Scholze, to this conjecture. We rigorously detail the tilting equivalence between the category of perfectoid spaces over a perfectoid field K and those over its tilt K of characteristic p. By establishing an isomorphism of étale topoi Xét .5-.5.5-.5.5-.5.5-.5Xét, we demonstrate how Galois representations associated with the cohomology of varieties in mixed characteristic can be transferred to equal characteristic p. We specifically analyze the proof for complete intersections in toric varieties, where the approximation lemma allows the reduction of the conjecture to the known function field case, thereby elucidating the deep interplay between p-adic geometry and motivic filtrations.
