LLM Hallucination Induced by Lack of Syntactic Responsibility in Japanese Academic Boilerplate: A Training Data Contamination Perspective 日本語学術定型文の構文責任欠如が誘発するLLMハルシネーション:訓練データ汚染の観点から
Abstract
This study demonstrates that boilerplate phrases commonly used in Japanese academic papers lack "syntactic responsibility"—defined as subject determination, responsibility attribution, and causal connection—and that this structural deficiency contributes to LLM hallucination through training data contamination. We identify a structural isomorphism between academic responsibility-evasive phrases and spiritual grammar, showing that phrases such as "further research is expected" can be directly converted to spiritual expressions like "will naturally manifest after planetary ascension." This convertibility proves that both share identical syntactic structures despite different vocabularies. When LLMs learn from academic papers containing these boilerplate phrases at high frequency, they internalize responsibility-evasive syntax as "correct academic expression." Since responsibility-evasive syntax permits generation of unverifiable information, hallucination is structurally induced. We propose: (1) introducing "syntactic responsibility scores" for training data filtering, (2) implementing responsibility-evasive phrase detection in peer review, and (3) screening researchers for spiritual grammar patterns in funding applications. These measures would exclude low-quality papers from training data and prevent funding allocation to researchers who contaminate AI systems.
