Abstract

This paper provides a diagnostic analysis of global political conditions in early 2026, focusing on the simultaneous emergence of large-scale protests and coercive stabilization across multiple regions. Drawing primarily on international news coverage—most notably the nationwide protests and repression in Iran—it argues that these developments should not be interpreted as isolated political or economic crises. Instead, the paper conceptualizes them as structurally linked expressions of a deeper systemic condition: the collapse of the generative sphere, understood as the social domain in which meaning, legitimacy, and shared expectations are reproduced. As this sphere contracts, governance increasingly relies on coercive repression, deterrence rhetoric, and functional control, regardless of regime type. The analysis reframes authoritarian repression and external interventionism as functionally equivalent responses operating within the same structural logic. Both assume that stability can be restored through force, that social order can be externally imposed, and that legitimacy can be substituted by control. In this sense, repression and deterrence are not opposing strategies but parallel adaptations of systems that can no longer regenerate social consent. This paper constitutes the first diagnostic study in a two-part series. It is conceptually complemented by: "Ohumi, K. (2026). While the present paper focuses on structural diagnosis, the subsequent work develops a constructive theoretical framework.
