Griffiths Hydrogen-Rich Subcutaneous Radiation-Shielding Membrane Architecture
Abstract
The Griffiths Hydrogen‑Rich Subcutaneous Radiation‑Shielding Membrane Architecture (v4.0) Defines a multifunctional structural system that unifies radiation shielding, load‑path continuity, life‑support mass, and propulsion‑coupling mass into a single integrated layer within interstellar habitats. The membrane forms a continuous hydrogen‑rich fluid reservoir between the Inner Pressure Shell and the Outer Structural/Micrometeoroid Shell, providing 10–20 g/cm² of baseline shielding with dynamic reinforcement up to 30 g/cm² during solar particle events. A multi‑layer self‑sealing elastomer stack enables autonomous puncture closure, while sectorized fluid routing supports rapid isolation, mass redistribution, and storm‑shelter reinforcement. This v4.0 release formalizes the membrane’s structural integration, radiation‑attenuation performance, manufacturing pathways, and mission‑level doctrine. It also establishes interoperability with the broader Griffiths canon, including the Dual‑Ring Habitat, Methane–Steam Hybrid Drive, GNMT‑Drive, DIGSP, and NGLS architectures. The result is a shielding system that behaves not as a passive barrier but as a dynamic, load‑bearing, propulsive, and damage‑adaptive organ of the habitat — engineered for multi‑decade interstellar missions and future fleet‑scale deployment.
