Causality, Strain, and Finite Signal Speed - An Elastic Resolution of Bell's Spaceship Paradox
Abstract
This paper presents an elastic, finite-signal-speed resolution of Bell’s Spaceship Paradox, reframing the problem in terms of causal strain propagation rather than purely kinematic length contraction. By modeling the connecting string as a causal medium with finite elastic response, the paradox is resolved without invoking coordinate artifacts or nonlocal assumptions. The analysis clarifies where and when strain develops, highlights the role of boundary-driven acceleration, and restores causal transparency to a classic relativistic thought experiment.
