IS THE HUMAN BEING ILL? The Map of the Brain, the Birth of Consciousness, and the Point Where Evolution Becomes Locked
Abstract
This work is structurally governed by THE META-INDEX (Zenodo DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.18169167). Is the Human Being Ill? examines whether the persistent crises of modern civilization—violence, injustice, ecological destruction, and ethical stagnation—should be understood not merely as social or political failures, but as symptoms of a deeper biological and cognitive mismatch. The work proposes that human technological capacity has rapidly evolved, while the neurobiological architecture governing decision-making has remained largely constrained by evolutionarily older brain systems. In particular, the dominance of subcortical mechanisms (reptilian and limbic circuits) over cortical reasoning is argued to produce systemic dysfunction at individual, institutional, and civilizational levels. By mapping the development of the brain, the emergence of consciousness, and the point at which evolutionary adaptation becomes insufficient, this study reframes “human illness” as a structural condition rather than a moral failure. The analysis integrates neuroscience, evolutionary biology, ethics, and systems theory, positioning cognitive imbalance—not ignorance or intent—as the central explanatory variable. Rather than offering a medical diagnosis, the work introduces a diagnostic framework: if institutions are built upon neurobiological architectures optimized for survival rather than long-term reasoning, then recurring global crises are not anomalies but predictable outcomes. The text thus serves as a conceptual foundation for rethinking justice, governance, and artificial intelligence through the lens of cognitive capacity and evolutionary limits. Canonical NoteThis work is a canonical component of the Meta-Index framework. It contributes to the biological and cognitive axis of the system by examining the evolutionary limits of human decision-making and the structural dominance of subcortical processes.
