System Boundaries as Interface Sets UI Freezing, Acceleration Events, and Non-Extinction Transitions: A CMEM–IFST Diagnostic Interpretation of the Dinosaur–Bird Transition
Abstract
CMEM Framework Collection Link This paper proposes an interface-based definition of system boundaries, replacing spatial or material enclosure with active interface sets (UI). Using the CMEM framework and the Interface Freezing Sequence Table (IFST), biological transitions are reinterpreted as interface freezing processes rather than extinction events. The dinosaur–bird transition is analyzed as a large-scale boundary contraction, accelerated by an external shock that compressed available recovery time (Δt), rather than as a narrative-driven evolutionary replacement. This work provides a diagnostic, non-teleological framework for understanding biological system collapse, survival, and boundary reconfiguration across scales.
