FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES IN OSCAR WILDE'S SALOME
Abstract
This research presents a feminist analysis of Oscar Wilde’s Salome, emphasizing issues of gender, authority, and the construction of female subjectivity in a patriarchal society. Unlike typical portrayals of women in late nineteenth-century literature, Salome emerges as a character who asserts control over her desires and voice, challenging societal and male-dominated structures. Through historical and theoretical analysis, this research highlights how Wilde’s play critiques patriarchal constraints while foregrounding the tensions surrounding women’s autonomy. The study positions Salome not merely as a destructive figure, but as a literary symbol of resistance and agency in the face of gendered power structures.
