THE IMPORTANCE OF ENGLISH GRAMMAR IN LANGUAGE LEARNING
Abstract
Grammar has long been regarded as the backbone of language learning, forming the foundational framework upon which linguistic competence is built. In the process of mastering English as a foreign or second language, grammar plays a critical role in shaping learners’ abilities to communicate accurately, coherently, and effectively across diverse contexts. This article examines the importance of English grammar in language learning by exploring its cognitive, communicative, pedagogical, and social dimensions. It emphasizes how grammar supports the development of the four essential language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—while also contributing to intellectual growth, analytical thinking, and cultural understanding.
