Abstract

The Rodeostat Corrosion Lab is a professional-grade Python-based graphical user interface designed specifically for high-resolution electrochemical corrosion analysis using the IO Rodeo Rodeostat potentiostat. This application streamlines the standard three-electrode electrochemical testing workflow by providing a comprehensive suite of tools for real-time data acquisition, advanced signal processing, and automated kinetic parameter derivation. Users can perform precision potentiodynamic polarization (Tafel analysis) with granular control over experiment variables, including sweep range relative to a stabilized Open Circuit Potential, variable scan rates, high-frequency sampling rates, and adjustable initial hold times to minimize capacitive charging artifacts. To ensure scientific-grade data integrity, the software incorporates a Savitzky–Golay post-processing algorithm that effectively suppresses electronic noise while preserving the true geometric slopes of the polarization branches. The core analytical engine automatically calculates critical corrosion metrics—including corrosion potential (Ecorr), normalized corrosion current density (icorr), anodic and cathodic Tafel slopes (ba, bc), and the Stern–Geary constant (B)—through a sophisticated fitting algorithm. This algorithm is uniquely designed with saturation protection to ignore hardware clipping and provides user-definable potential windows for linear regression, allowing for accurate extrapolation even in highly corrosive or diffusion-limited environments. Complementing its analytical power, the interface features synchronized real-time plotting in both linear current density and semi-logarithmic scales, a determinate progress bar for experiment tracking, and a dual-export system that generates both high-resolution filtered datasets and summarized result reports in CSV formats.
