Abstract

We introduce a simple fixed procedure that maps a finite set of distinct numbers to a structured object encoding its internal variability. The procedure consists of repeated pairwise aggregation under maximal mixing, followed by discretization and sparse encoding of the resulting layered histories. Aggregating over many permutations yields a single signature. Applied to a wide range of input families, the procedure exhibits a clear dichotomy. For deterministic families (polynomial, logarithmic, affine, primes, etc.), repeated runs converge to a stable, family-specific object, independent of pairing order and random mixing. For random families, the resulting objects fail to stabilize and exhibit genuine run-to-run structural variation. These results suggest that, under a fixed minimal interaction rule, variability is more naturally represented as a structured object rather than as a scalar statistic. The work does not propose a new statistical measure, but demonstrates an operational framework in which order and disorder are distinguished through the crystallization behavior of variability itself.
