Cognitive Understanding Architecture (CUA): Technical Specification v1.1
Abstract
The Cognitive Understanding Architecture (CUA) presents a privacy-preserving personalization framework for AI systems, implementing the theoretical CAMA framework through a five-tier memory architecture combined with dual-parameter learning mechanisms. Version 1.1 extends the specification with:- Operational definitions (epoch semantics, user contribution, compute architectures)- Enhanced safety mechanisms (quality gates, adapter drift management, deletion protocol)- Implementation guidance (RDP calibration, SNR analysis, configuration matrix)- Strengthened connections to the foundational philosophical framework CUA represents the technical implementation of the Cognitive Agent Memory Architecture (CAMA) as described in "Understanding Before Ethics: A Four-Dimensional Foundation for AI Moral Agency" (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.18135028).
