Subconvexity Bounds for GL(3) Automorphic L-Functions in the Level Aspect and Quantum Ergodicity
Abstract
We establish a subconvexity bound for the central value of the L-function associated with a Hecke-Maass cusp form for SL(3, Z) in the level aspect. Specifically, let be a cusp form of level q and trivial nebentypus. We prove that L(1/2, ) q3/4 - + for some > 0, breaking the trivial convexity bound implied by the Phragmén-Lindelöf principle. The proof utilizes the circle method (delta method) combined with the GL(3) Voronoi summation formula to separate oscillations of the Fourier coefficients. Furthermore, we discuss the implications of this result for the Quantum Unique Ergodicity (QUE) conjecture on locally symmetric spaces of higher rank. In particular, we analyze the equidistribution of mass for the sequence of eigenfunctions in the level aspect, relating the subconvexity exponent to the rate of convergence towards the Haar measure in the weak-* topology.
